Silicone Oils; how they dull hair over time
Have you ever noticed your once luscious locks losing their shine and vitality? Could it be that the culprit behind this lackluster appearance is none other than an attractively packaged hair oil from a salon or chemist? Let's delve into the world of hair care and explore how these seemingly beneficial oils may actually be causing your hair to look dull and lifeless.
Unveiling the Build-Up
Silicone oils, often found in hair products promising a glossy finish, can indeed deliver on their initial promise. However, over time, these oils tend to accumulate on the hair shaft, creating a barrier that prevents moisture from penetrating the strands. This build-up not only leads to dullness but also weighs the hair down, making it appear lifeless and lackluster.
The Deception of Shine
While silicone oils may provide a temporary illusion of shine by coating the hair with a smooth, reflective layer, this effect is short-lived and comes at a cost. The more you rely on these oils for that instant gratification of glossy hair, the more you risk suffocating your strands and robbing them of their natural radiance.
The Silicone INCI Names
You may find Dimethicone, Trimethicone, Cyclomethicone and Cyclopentasiloxane hidden amongst amazing ingredients like Argan Oil, Bilberry and Blackberry Fruit Extracts but don't be fooled!
Reviving Your Hair's Luster by Removing the Buildup of Silicone
This advice came straight from my hairdressers mouth. Simply add a heaped teaspoon of baking soda to your shampoo lather and massage through the hair before washing out and conditioning. You may need to do this twice in one week to remove the silicone build up.
After shampooing use our Lemon Sorbet Conditioner making sure it's left in for 1-2 minutes before washing out. That's all you need to add a bit of shine.
